The Princess and The Pea

There once was a prince who wanted to marry a princess, but it had to be real princess. So he went all over the world looking for a real princess. Everywhere he met young ladies told him they were real princess, but could never be completely sure that this was true. There was always something about them that did not seem quite right. And so, after along time, the prince went back home to his parents and was very sad.
One evening there was a terrible storm. It rained heavily and there was thunder and lightning in the sky above the royal castle. Then there was a knock at the castle gate. The old king went out to see who it could be.
A princess was standing outside the gate. The rain ran down over her hair and clothes and into her shoes. She told the king that she was a real princess, and he asked her to come inside.
“Well, said the old queen. We’ll soon find out if that is true. She went into the guest bedroom and took the mattress and blanket of the bed. Then she put a little green pea on the bed. She put twenty mattress on top of the pea, and then twenty mattress on top of the pea, and then twenty blankets on top of the mattress. This was where the princess was going to spend the night.
The next morning the queen asked the princess how she had slept.
“oh, it was terrible” answered the princess. Í didn’t close my eyes all night. I don’t know what was in my bed, but I lay on something hard, and now I am black and blue all over. It was quite a terrible night.”
Now, the king, the queen and the prince could be sure that this was a real princess she had felt the little pea trough twenty mattresses and twenty blankets. Only a real princess will be able to do that.
So the prince married the princess and the pea was put in a museum for everyone to see, unless someone has taken it, it’s still there today.

The Golden Egg

Long time ago a remote village, in central China was inhabited mainly with farmers and hunters.
One day, a poor farmer lost his entire livestock to flood. He prayed hard to God for help or his family would die of starvation.
Few days later, an old man with long grey beard, passed by his house took pity on him. He gave him a goose and said “ I don’t have any expensive thing to give you and hope this goose will help you to ease your hardship.”
A week later to almost surprise the farmer found and egg in his yard. This was no ordinary egg. It was a golden egg. He was suddenly overcome with joy.
Thereafter, his livelihood had rapidly improved but the farmer had forgotten his earlier hardship. He became lazy, arrogant and spendthrift.
Strangely, the goose only laid one golden egg every six months. The greedy farmer lost his patient and slaughtered his goose thinking there were plenty of golden eggs inside its stomach.
Though he very much regretted for his foolishness, it’s already too late.

Then she saw a little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, “What’s your name?” Snow White said, “My name is Snow White.”
Doc, one of the dwarfs said, “If you wish, you may live here with us.” Snow White said, “Oh could I? Thank you.” Then Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story and Snow White and the seven dwarfs lived happily ever after.

The Monkey and The Crocodile

One day a monkey wanted to cross a river. He saw a crocodile in the river, so he asked the crocodile to take him across the other side. The crocodile told the monkey to jump on its back. Then the crocodile swam down the river.
Now, the crocodile was very hungry, so when it was in the middle of the river, it stopped and said to the monkey, ”Monkey, my father is very sick. He must eat the heart of the monkey. Then he will be strong again.”
The monkey thought for a while. Then he told the crocodile to swim back to the river bank.
“What’s for?”asked the crocodile.
“Because I didn’t bring my heart with me,” said the monkey. “I left it under the tree, near some coconuts.”
So, the crocodile turned around and swam back to the bank of the river. As soon as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped off the crocodile’s back and climbed up to the top of a tree.
“Where is your heart?” asked the crocodile.
“You are foolish,” the monkey said to the crocodile. “Now I am free and you have nothing.”
The monkey told the crocodile not to try to fool him again. The crocodile swam away, hungry.

Result of My School Experience

In this semester I have got 8 days for school experience. School experience for this semester is focus to be an assistance of teacher. Firstly, when I know that I have to observe Santa Theresia Senior High School, I felt nervous and afraid because I guessed that teacher in there is so clever and master in teaching. I felt like that because I ever thought that I can’t balance the teacher’s skill. Although I was nervous I still motivated myself to do this well.
During the school observation, I saw a lot of things from process teaching and learning of languages. I have observed two English teachers there. The first one is Ms. Margie. As she said that she only focuses in Listening comprehension. I saw that she used media as teaching and learning aid. She used English lab which has a lot of things like tape recorder. There were 40 tape recorders. I think it is good and effective because every student has one media and can be focus in listening. The second teacher is Ms. Johana. As I saw along the school observation, she also used media as a teaching and learning aid. She used a worksheet as a part of learning process. In that worksheet student can do their tasks and after that they discussed it together. I think it is good because if each student didn’t get worksheet, teacher has to write in the board first and it uses a lot time and add the ineffectiveness in the class. We can imagine, if each student didn’t get the worksheet absolutely they can’t discuss the material together.
Ms. Margie used digital media. She used internet in her class to get more information of English language. She also used LCD and tape recorder. I think it is the evidence that she used digital media. But after I think a loud about it, I argue that it was not effective. Why? Because according to my observation, when the student has come and they sit and Ms. Margie just play the tape recorder and keep the student to do their task in their worksheet. It was along her hours. After time is up, she didn’t explain even greeting to her student. For me, It is not effective because we can’t understand whether our student understand the lesson or not. Although Ms. Margie used digital media but she didn’t communicate with her students in her class. In Ms. Johana class is so different with Ms. Margie class. Although Ms. Johana didn’t use digital media as a teaching and learning aid but she could manage her class and communicate with her students. I saw that she explain first and then asked her student understanding and then did exercise and then discuss it together. She also made sure to her students whether they understand about the courses or not. I think her way and style in learning was effective even she didn’t use digital media.
If I were a teacher in the same case, I will use digital media as my media in my own teaching and learning process. For example, I will use facebook, twitter, moodle, podcast, kaskus, delicious and etc. Just to make everyone sure, I will teach differently. I will combine my lesson with information, opinion and argument that I get from internet and I will share it to my students. Of course they will be giving their response and it adds their knowledge and skill about language, politeness and way to giving opinion. I also will be compiling my lesson with games which is related with my lesson. From these activities I wish I will be much better in my future as a Digital Native English teacher.

Second week in St.Theresia Senior High School (written by Cepo)

This is my reflection about observation in second week. I have adapted with the teachers and also with the students. I observed a lot of things there. I observed from the teacher, the students and also their communication.
According to my observation, I found effectiveness in Ms. Johanna’s class. I observed her teaching and absolutely all that involves in the classroom. I think, she was good I her teaching because she can communicate with her students and also she involves her student in learning process. Besides that, she also asks to her students about their understanding. She can control her class and she can elicit students’ attention. She ensured to the student whether they understand or not.
I also found weakness in her classroom. At that time there was a student who makes dirty on the floor. She asked him to clean up. I think it is not really effective. Why? Because it disturbed learning process and also the times. As a evidence some student didn’t pay attention to the lesson because they watched their friend who cleans up the floor.
In the second week I have to teach student in the XI IS 1. First time when I came there, I felt shy and a little bit nervous. We were doing group teaching. My part is eliciting students’ attention. When I started it, I just kept smile and then miracle happened. Students were excited and looked so interested. They responded my question well. I was so happy and I enjoyed the whole classroom.
If I become a teacher in that school and in the same lesson. I will use a lot of media like computer, 3d things, paper and etc to make my student interested to my lesson. I believe everything that I have done in this school experience is useful and meaningful.

1st Week School Experience’s Reflection

Santa Theresia is the school that I observe. It is in Sarinah, Central Jakarta. I was happy when I knew that I have to observe this school. Why? Because this is my first time to observe private school. Actually I also felt a little bit nervous because I stereotype that private school is better that national school in education standard. But I don’t know exactly about Santa Theresia’s student. And also I have 4days for take a rest first before I observe. Prepare my self totally. So, that’s why I have to taste it.
When the first time I came there I met Ms.Johana and Ms.Margi. They are so friendly and kind. They are also open to us and flexible. They also give us some motivation to being a good teacher. Finally, I have started my observation this morning. Firstly, I came to Ms. Margi’s class. She taught about listening comprehension. Honestly, I felt so bored because she didn’t have fun with her class. I saw that Ms.Margi didn’t elicit the student’s attention first. She started her class with playing the cassette and the student have to do their exercise in their worksheet. I thought that there was no communication in that learning process. Why? Because the teacher didn’t communicate with the student and I am sure that it is just one way learning.
According to my opinion, it is a little bit different with Ms.Johana’s lesson. She elicited the student’s attention first and then she discusses about the material. She asked student’s answer and she also gives the right answer. I think, she can make a good communication in her class. In the other hand she was doing two ways learning. She is wise and not a killer teacher exactly.
According with what I saw this morning, It supports my belief that every teacher has a different way in their learning and also different style. They also have different management to manage their class. These activities are so important for me especially as a teacher candidate. I can reflect to my self what should I do in my class and my teaching later. Be my self, be different and also I have to be aware with my student’s need.

Meaning of My Name

I was born into the world on 17 September 1991 without crying. Maybe then, my parents were very anxious to learn that I had been born into the world without crying. I figure that was slightly pale and actually already rather blue. At that time the doctors and all paramedics with immediate help for me. Until finally, I also cried a voice that was very high and powerful. My parents were gleeful and automatically the doctor said, "Later the child's mother that her voice would be a great singer." With a merry old man I was "mengamininya".I have a name consisting of three words and more precisely 17 letter. There are many parties involved in making my name. They are the Mother, Father and Grand Parents. Many people tell me my name like a Javanese. Hahahah, very, very funny. The first word of the name given by my Mother and Father. The word consists of 5 letters and have a sense of "September". The second word consists of 3 letters and my mom said, the word was inspired by the word "Son". If the third word in my name consists of 9 letters. This word is given by Ompung me. The name was taken from the name of my Doli ompung (in Indonesian language is the grandfather).I personally think, the meaning of the name I was a child born on the seventeenth day in September 1991 that is blessed by God Almighty with a beautiful voice and a child succeed in life. I also feel that now I am very worthy of this name. Also, I am also proud that many people who have almost the same name as me but no the exact same. Hahaha. In my opinion, everything that could possibly happen in this life. There must be a situation that allows me to change my name. But I am not interested at all to change my name. Why is that? Because a name that has given parents and my Grand Parents to me since I was born and still I carry now is a blessing that is priceless and it is inherited from both my parents and everyone who cared for me. I also believe that in my name implied a meaning intended by that time my parents and their expectations for my life. I believe everything that has happened, still happensand will happen in my life is beautiful in His time. I believe that God always meddle in my life. Everything that is good which is written and implied in this text will always be my "Amini". Amen.

She is my niece. This video was one year ago.

She is my beloved niece. Her name is Vivian Ruth Brigitha Panjaitan. She was born in Jakarta, on September, 16, 2006. I love her very very very much. She was my first niece.
Why did I post her video in my blog. . ???

She is digital natives also. I posted her video because I want to show that now children are clever and smart. They can use a lot of things that we think it is impossible. This is just one example for us. I wish this video can motivate us to be dynamic digital native-ers.
 I hope so. . .

About my Cell Phone. . .

I have a good mobile phone. It can used for sms, mms, landmark, GPS, Electronic Dictionary, calculator, listening the music, browsing, playing games, Pdf reader, quickoffice, electronic Holy Bible, take photos, record video, edit photos and etc. I think it supports my learning, especially in language learning.

Why. . .?

It can solve my problem. For instance, when I have confusions whether I don't know the vocab or the meaning, especially in English language. I can use electronic dictionary to find the meaning of word which is confusing for me. One more example, when I study mathematics and I have to count big numbers,I can use calculator to make easier.
So, my mobile phone has one of important roles in my learning.

Warm Regards,
Cepooo. . .

Abbey is a 3 years old. She is a digital native. She wants to have practice life.
